With over 22,000 students and more than 200,000 alumni, NSU is ranked in Forbes’ “America\u2019s Top Colleges.” In July 2022, the College of Dental Medicine at NSU launched two new training laboratories. Thirty-eight state-of-the-art simulation units from Dentsply Sirona are digitally networked with the alphadidact\u00ae Digital Multimedia System from EBS.<\/p>\n

A “Surgical Room” is connected to the training lab for the presentation of live treatments.<\/p>\n

The functions of the alphadidact\u00ae Digital Multimedia System are operated through a user interface on a 10″ touchscreen, adapted to the room’s requirements. Simple operation and the system’s independence from the hardware and software used were some of the key requirements for the digital training system.<\/p>\n

With just one keystroke, the instructor can send signals from a digital camera, microscope, or tablet to the students\u2014individually, in groups, or to all screens at once.<\/p>\n

If a student’s work is to be made accessible to everyone, it only takes a keystroke on the corresponding participant number (e.g., S1).<\/p>\n

Signal from S1 is transmitted to the instructor and positions S13-S18<\/p>\n

The camera signal at position 1 is then transmitted to all participant screens. This allows Student 1 to present their work “live,” with the instructor providing commentary in real-time.<\/p>\n

If a live treatment takes place in the Surgical Room, it can also be transmitted to all students’ screens. This visualization can be activated either from the touchscreen in the Sim Lab or directly from the Surgical Room.<\/p>\n

By connecting the training lab to the treatment room via a 70-meter long fiber optic cable, students can be trained in a hands-on and professional manner.<\/p>\n

Interactive and dynamic training becomes possible by integrating individual participants. Each workstation can be switched to a signal source and thus become the “presenter.”<\/p>\n

Even in the back rows of the training lab, participants can follow the training content in optimal quality and see it in detail.<\/p>\n
